Sublett Hits Game-Winner as Bearcats Hold Off Warner Pacific
SALEM: Harold Sublett Jr. hit a fade-away 12-foot jumper with 2.8 seconds to play, then knocked away a full court pass to seal the victory as the Willamette University men’s basketball team opened the 2003-2004 season with a 78-76 win over Warner Pacific.
The Bearcats (1-0) saw an 18-point first half advantage melt away with the Knights (2-3) taking their first lead of the game, 73-72, on a Wesley Powers bucket with 2:10 remaining.
Senior Miles Sandgathe delivered 20 points and point guard David Force added 16 as Willamette shot 46 percent from the field in the victory. Sublett and P.J. McDevitt each finished with 10 points.
Warner Pacific was paced by Powers with 28 points and eight rebounds. Joe Hoover tallied 19 points and Lamar Tillman added 10. The Knights shot 52 percent from the floor and held a 40-28 rebound advantage, but committed 16 turnovers and made just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.
