Bearcats Fall to Pt. Loma 14-10 in Final Game of Series
San Diego, CA (2/14) - Point Loma Nazarene first baseman Jud Richards hit a pair of three-run homeruns Saturday leading the Sea Lions to a 14-10 non-conference victory over visiting Willamette University. Richards' counterpart, Andrew Bartels, also went deep twice. With no wind to hold back deep drives, the two teams combined for 26 hits and seven homers.
"This was the type of day you hope for as a hitter," said Richards. "You better do something when you get it."
The Sea Lions took an early 3-0 lead after Richards connected in the first inning. Bearcat second baseman Matt Rasmussen erased the PLNU lead after hitting a three-run blast of his own and put his team up 4-3 in the top of the fifth. Three Bearcat errors, however, opened the floodgates in the bottom of the frame as PLNU scored eight runs sandwiched between a three-run homer by Jud Richards and a run-scoring double off the bat of left fielder Joe Bisant.
Homers by shortstop Dave Parker and catcher Will Craig had the Sea Lions up 14-7. A four-run Bearcat seventh ended the day's scoring.
Each team collected 13 hits Saturday with Richards (3-for-5), Craig (2-for-4), Parker (2-for-5) and DH Ryan Hoover (2-for-4) the Sea Lion players with multiple hits while Bartels, Rasmussen, CF Ken Halpin, C Travis Schull and DH John Cox had two hits apiece.
