Baseball defeats Bethany College, 4-0
Salem - It was a perfect day for baseball and a perfect day for a win. After rain and cancellations halted play for a few of the games this season already, today's mild temperature and clear skies was exactly what Willamette wanted for the first home game of the season. Not to mention coming away with the win.
Junior, John Cox (Spokane, Washington) scored in the second inning after doubling to center field and avdvancing to third on an error by Senior, Matt Drahn (Lincoln City, Oregon) and finally scoring when senior, Ken Halpin (Medford, Oregon) singled to right center.
Willamette's next run came in the 3rd inning with Colin Griffin scoring after singling to right field, advancing to second after senior, Andrew Bartels (Medford, Oregon) reached first on a fielder's choice. Halpin singled to right center and gave Griffin the opportunity to score, lifting the Bearcats 2-0.
The Bearcats scored the last two runs in the 5th inning. Sophomore, Matt Johnson (Port Angeles, Washington) and Bartels scored bringing the Bearcats to 4-0.
The Bearcats and the Bethany Bruins face off tomorrow, Saturday, March 13th in a double header and Roy S. "Spec" Keene Stadium beginning at noon.
