Bearcats are defeated by Wildcats
McMinnville, Ore. - Willamette was outhit by the Wildcats of Linfield 20-3 during a Northwest Conference doubleheader sweep Saturday at the Linfield softball diamond. The Wildcats, ranked No. 23 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, won the opener 9-0 in five innings, the blanked the Bearcats 8-0 in a six-inning nightcap.
Linfield (31-7, 24-2 NWC) has clinched the league championship outright as well as securing the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The regional playoffs are scheduled for May 7-10 with the pairings expected to be announced Monday, May 3.
Willamette dropped to 16-21 overall, 12-14 in the NWC.
