Bearcats Sweep Loggers 7-0, 1-0
Tacoma, Wash. - The Bearcats, on the road, used solid pitching and sound defense to take both games of their double-header with host Puget Sound this afternoon. Willamette won game one 7-0 and edged the Loggers 1-0 in game two. Bearcat pitchers allowed just seven hits and one walk in the two games, while the Bearcats defense was error-free on the afternoon.
Willamette moves to 16-15, 12-8 with the two wins. The defeats drop the Loggers to 10-14, 7-9.
The Bearcats scored in each of the first four innings of game one to run out to a 7-0 lead and take command of the game. First baseman Lindsey Braun and centerfielder Cari Schruth both went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead Willamette offensively. Teren Edgecomb (9-11) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits in picking up her ninth win of the season.
Jessica Robetrs (3-4) walked three and allowed three earned runs in four innings of work. Roberts and third basemen Marisa Gillaspie had hits for the Loggers. The Loggers allowed four unearned runs on four errors in game one.
In game two Willamette again got on the board early, scoring the games only run in the top of the first. Britteny Dearing (4-0) pitched five innings to earn the win for the Bearcats. Kelsey Weidkamp (3-5) allowed three hits and walked two in the loss for the Loggers. Five different players had hits for Puget Sound.
Willamette hosts Whitworth College April 17th and 18th, both days beginning at noon.
