Governor's Cup Regatta Results, Pancakes and Boats

Salem - Willamette Men's and Women's Crew hosted the Governor's Cup Regatta which brought Lewis & Clark, Humboldt State University and Seattle Pacific to Salem for some intense racing and great pancakes.

Spectators were able to see all the action from Riverfront Park and get breakfast. Pancakes were being flipped and served until 1:30 for athletes and fans alike.

Willamette Crews won 3 races, Women's Novice Eight, Women's Varsity Four and Women's Novice Four. The Cup or Premier Races were dominated by Lewis & Clark, with the Pioneers winning the Women's 2nd Varsity Eight, Varsity Eight and Men's Varsity Eight (The Men's 2nd Varsity Eight was cancelled). This was the first time that Willamette Varsity Crews have been defeated by Lewis & Clark.

The strong novice showings on the women's side are a glimpse into the future. After the novice year, rowers become varsity members and can compete to make the top eight. With wins in the novice eight and four as those women move to varsity the depth will increase and with that potentially the speed of the crews.

The men had a disappointing loss in the Varsity Eight race, coming in 3rd behind Lewis & Clark and Humboldt State. An equipment failure (for the second week in a row) made the coxswain's calls inaudible.

Willamette Crews will be at the Redwood Invitational in Eureka, Calif on Saturday, April 17th.
