Softball Swept by Whitworth in Four Game Series
Salem - Softball hosted Whitworth in a four game series this weekend and was swept. Number two Whitworth, second to Linfield in the Northwest Conference, took the Bearcats 3-1, 5-1, 10-1 and 8-3.
In game one the Bearcats were up 1-0 at the top of the seventh when the Pirates' Sonnet scored a run after getting on base due to an error by the Bearcats. With the game tied in the eigth inning the Pirates clinched the victory with 2 runs. The final score was 3-1.
Willamette dropped the second game 5-1 after scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh. The Bearcats late play wasn't enough to lift them up over the Pirates.
On Sunday, April 18th the Bearcats fell to the Pirates 10-1 and 8-3. Whitworth took the 1st game of the day in the 6th inning by going on a scoring frenzy. The Pirates scored six runs and made 5 hits. The Bearcats weren't able to answer, though they scored in the bottom of the fourth, Whitworth answered scoring another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
For the weekend Molly Barnes and Kim Boscacci led the Bearcats with 4 hits apiece and 5 total bases each.
The Bearcats will be at Linfield (number one in the NWC) this weekend for a four game series, April 24th and 25th. Both double headers start at noon.
