LAST WEEK: Stout, Symmonds, McGrane shine

Jake Stout (Jr., Portland Christian HS/lives in Brush Prairie, Wash.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:18.6 during the George Fox Distance Carnival on Friday. On Saturday during the Oregon Mini Meet in Eugene, Nick Symmonds (Fr., Bishop Kelly HS, Idaho) won the 800 meters (3:54.34) and Shannon McGrane (So., Colville HS, Wash.) placed second in the 100 hurdles (15.24) and the 400 hurdles (1:04.34). Her 100 time moved McGrane from third into a tie for second on WU's all-time list with Kate Proebstel, who ran the same time in 1989. Symmonds’ 1,500 time of 3:54.34 is an NCAA Division III provisional qualifier and the top time in the conference this season. The time also ranks No. 5 in WU history and makes him the fastest Bearcat in that event in 20 years.

NWC HONORS: Symmonds wins Men’s Athlete of the Week award, again

Nick Symmonds (Fr., Bishop Kelly HS, Idaho) was named Northwest Conference Men's Athlete of the Week on Monday for the second time this season. Symmonds earned the honor on Monday after winning the 1,500-meter run (3:54.34) during the Oregon Mini Meet in Eugene on Saturday. Ironically, Symmonds' other NWC weekly award came directly after another performance at Hayward Field in Eugene. He won the 800 meters during the Oregon Preview on March 22 and won the conference honor the following Monday.
