Bearcats Best Alumni in Pre-season Contest

SALEM — Senior Kyle Gouveia and freshman Mark Conrad scored goals in the second half as the Willamette University men's soccer team edged an alumni team in a pre-season match at McCulloch Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Gouveia got the Bearcats first goal about 15 minutes into the second half when he scored on a penalty kick.

Conrad (pictured left) got his unofficial first collegiate goal when he converted an assist from Trevor Jones.

The Alumni goal came from the foot of Greg Marshall, a Salem-area referee who will likely call several games for the Bearcats this season.

Marshall was joined on the alumni squad by women's soccer coaches Jim Tursi and Chase Jordan. Ben DeSanno, a Northwest Conference first team player from a year ago, also played for the alumni.

"We started off a little rough... and that's to be expected," said first year Head Coach Jeff Enquist. "But by the end of the game we played much better. We played a lot of our new kids to give them a taste of the college game and we'll be ready for our season opener."

The Bearcats host Cascade College next Wednesday in their opening game of the season.
