Coaches' Poll Picks Bearcats for Fifth

SALEM—The Willamette University’s men’s soccer team was picked fifth in the Northwest Conference coaches 2004 pre-season poll.

Willamette welcomes first year head coach Jeffrey Enquist, head coach of Portland City United club since 1997, to the Bearcat family. With this addition, the Bearcats are looking to replace key players Ben DeSanno and Adam Moshofsky, scoring nine goals each and earning First Team All-NWC honors.

The University of Puget Sound received five first place votes, seeding them first for this year’s polls. Senior forward Tyler Niemack, defending NWC Offensive Player of the Year, alongside Anthony Fioretti, First Team All-NWC midfielder, look to unseat defending champion Linfield College.

Whitworth slides into second for the NWC polls just above the Linfield Wildcats. Finishing with an overall record of 12-5-1 and 9-4-1 in the NWC last season, the Pirates bring back two First Team All-NWC players, Brad Suhm and Todd Sabrowski.

Linfield gathered the votes for third followed by Pacific Lutheran, Willamette, Pacific and Whitman (tied for sixth), and George Fox.

The Bearcats kick off the season at home against Cascade College, Wednesday, September 1 at 4:00pm.
