Rowing Informational Meeting Set for September 1; No experience necessary
SALEM — The Willamette University Rowing Team will hold a one-hour informational meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. on September 1st in the Curry Classroom at the Sparks Center for those men & women interested in turning out for the 2004-05 crew team.
No previous experience in rowing is required. According to Head Coach Rodney Mott, the program, which is entering its twelfth year as a men’s & women's varsity sport at Willamette, relies heavily on recruiting student-athletes who have never rowed before.
Mott is returning for his ninth season as head coach for the Bearcats. A 1988 graduate of Washington State University, Mott competed all four years in both the Lightweight and Heavyweight squads for the Cougars.
Ryan Kinnett, a familiar face to the Willamette community, will assist Mott in leading the Bearcats this season. Kinnett was a 4-year varsity rower for Willamette and served as the men’s team captain his senior year. No longer a student, Kinnett will devote his time to his class at 21st Century School House and to the Bearcat squad.
Swim/Float test will be held Friday, September 3rd from 4-5 p.m. The swim/float test on September 3rd will be held at Sparks pool. If you are unable to attend the informational meeting, you can still stop by for information during one of these days.
