Bearcats Beat Linfield in NWC Opener, 4-0
SALEM — The Willamette University women’s soccer team scored three goals in less than five minutes late in the second half as they defeated the Linfield Wildcats 4-0 in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams.
Freshman Rachel Clevenger (pictured left) had the first goal and first assist of her collegiate career, both coming in the Bearcat’s second half run.
Brenna Hindman scored her fourth goal in three games to open the scoring in the first half. Stephanie Brossman got her first assist of the season when she led Hindman for a breakaway goal in the 41st minute.
The game stayed 1-0 until the 74th minute when sophomore Michelle Gregoire scored her third goal of the season on a 15-yard shot from the right side. Laura Uhlmansiek got her team and league-leading fifth assist on the play.
Clevenger assisted on the next goal when she fed Susan Butler for a 3-0 Bearcat lead. Clevenger then wrapped up the scoring in the 78th minute when Hindman found her near the top of the box for her first goal.
Willamette out-shot Linfied 18-7. The Pirates’ Allison Cartmill had seven saves. Bearcat goalie Kari Woody had four saves.
Willamette’s next match is at home Friday against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs
