Bearcats Tie Missionairies 1-1 in NWC Match
SALEM OR — Susan Butler scored for the Bearcats and Lauren DeYoung tallied for Missionairies as the Willamette University women’s soccer team and Whitman College played to a 1-1 tie in a Northwest Conference match Saturday afternoon at Sparks Field.
Butler put the Bearcats (3-2-1, 1-1-1 NWC) on top 1-0 in the 11th minute when she converted a pass from Brenna Hindman. But the Missionairies (5-2, 2-1 NWC) struck right back, when Erin Frame set up DeYoung for the tying goal in the 14th minute.
The game was even throughout. The Bearcats had the edge in shots, 8-5. Corner kicks were even at 4-4. Goalies Kari Woody for Willamette and Annie Owen for Whitman each had one save in the contest.
The Bearcats continue NWC play on Sunday with a noon match against the Whitworth Pirates. Whitman takes on Linfield on Sunday.
