Bearcats Win Gettysburg Players Cup With 1-1 Tie
GETTYSBURG, Pa. Junior Brenna Hindman scored her third goal in two games and was named tournament MVP as the No. 11 ranked Willamette University women’s soccer team won the Gettysburg Players Tournament Saturday with a 1-1 tie against host Gettysburg.
The Bearcats (2-0-1) were named winner of the tournament based on goal differential with the Bullets claiming the runner-up position. Earlier this week the Bearcats were ranked No. 11 in the country in the first release of Division III polls for the season.
Hindman was named the tournament MVP after scoring all three of Willamette’s goals in tournament. In earlier action, the University of Mary Washington (2-2) defeated John Carroll University (0-4) 3-0.
In Saturday’s championship game, Hindman put the Bearcats on the board in the 62nd minute netting a goal off a pass from Nicole Dahl.
Myers rallied back finding the back of the net three minutes later off an assist from Christina DiTucci, knotting the score at 1-all for the rest of the game.
Gettysburg out-shot Willamette 14-5. Both teams had several scoring opportunities, but couldn’t convert the efforts.
In goal, Kari Woody tallied three stops for the Bearcats while Kristin Short gathered two.
