Whitworth Moves to 4-0 in NWC with 2-0 win Over Willamette
SALEM, OR — Chris Johnson and Niko Varlamos each scored goals as the Whitworth College men’s soccer team moved to 4-0 in the Northwest Conference with a 2-0 win over Willamette University Sunday afternoon at Sparks Field.
Whitworth moves to 7-1 on the season, 4-0 in the NWC. Willamette falls to 1-5-2 overall and 1-3 in the NWC.
Johnson scored in the 38th minute off an assist from Evan Hendrickson when his shot deflected off goalkeeper Dane Meier for a 1-0 Whitworth lead.
Adam Loeffler got the assist on Varlamos’ goal in the 73rd minute.
Whitworth out-shot Willamette 14-3. Whitworth goalie Kevin Bostock had three saves, all three at point blank range. Meier had four saves for the Bearcats.
