Whitworth Pirates Take Out Bearcats 1-0
SALEM, OR — Greta Thibodeau scored on her only shot of the game as the Whitworth Pirates handed the Willamette University women’s soccer team a 1-0 defeat in Northwest Conference action at Sparks Field on Sunday.
With the win, the Pirates move their record to 6-2-0 and are undefeated in NWC play at 5-0. The Bearcats fall to 3-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in NWC play.
Thibodeau’s unassisted goal came in the 63rd minute when her shot was deflected by a Bearcat defender and bounced over goalie Kari Woody and into the net.
Whitworth out-shot the Bearcats 9-3. Willamette had eight corner kicks in the second half, but was unable to convert. Whitworth had eight corners for the game.
Woody had four saves for Willamette. Jenn Miller recorded the Pirate shutout with a single save.
