Bearcats win Again at George Fox, 3-0
NEWBERG, OR.– A pair of second-half goals 89 seconds apart from Nicole Dahl and Susan Butler enabled the Willamette University women’s soccer team to break open a close game as Bearcats defeated the George Fox University Bruins 3-0 in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match Sunday afternoon at Morse Field.
Willamette improved to 5-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the league. George Fox slipped to 4-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Willamette took a 1-0 lead at 17:08 in the first half as Brenna Hindman took off on a long run with the ball down the left-center side of the field, dribbled through a pair of George Fox defenders, and shot the ball cleanly into the center of the net for her 4th goal of the season.
The Bruins had six shots on goal in the first half, but goalie Kari Woody turned them all away.
The Bearcats made it 2-0 at 50:29 when Butler (pictured above), after a pass from Kristi Edmunds, raced into the keeper’s box for a shot which was blocked on a dive by George Fox goalie Jessica Cardwell. Cardwell could not control the ball, and Butler put home rebound for her 5th goal this year.
Nicole Dahl added her 4th goal of the weekend and the season at 51:50 following a pass from Laura Ulmansiek, closing out the scoring.
Woody and Kristin Muramoto teamed up for the Willamette shutout, Woody working 82 minutes and making 8 saves. Cardwell had 10 saves for the Bruins.
Willamette controlled the second-half offense, taking 17 shots to 7 for the Bruins, and also took 10 corner kicks to 3 in the game for the Bruins.
