Cross Country teams compete in OSU's Beaver Classic
CORVALLIS, OR — A pair of freshman got a chance to shine this
weekend as the Willamette University cross country teams competed
in the Beaver Classic sponsored by the Oregon State University
cross country team.
Katrina Brett (FR., Longview, WA) led the women with a tenth place finish in 23:39 over 6000 meters.
On the men's side, Doug Neill (FR., Pleasant Hill, OR) earned a spot as an alternate for the conference team by running to a 12th place finish in 26:40, shaving nearly fifty seconds off his 8k personal best.
With the Northwest Conference championships coming up this weekend, the top Bearcat runners had the week off. That gave Brett and Neill — as well as other Bearcat runners — a chance to show what they can do.
Coming in right after Brett’s 10th place finish were Bearcat runners Stephanie Vandehey (11th place, 23:42.98), Ellen Beebe (12th, 23:52.30) and Ashley Sharatt (13th, 23:53.86).
Kendra Rosenberg and Sarah Fairbrook also finished in the Top 20 for the Bearcat women.
On the men’s side, after Neil’s 12th place finish, a quartet of Bearcats runners finished together. Those runners were Josh Butler (24th, 27:20.06), John Palabrica (25th, 27:20.60), Joe Kaczmarek (26th, 27:35.50) and Ricky Martin 27th, 27:41.36).
