Folsom's Goal gives UPS Win Over Bearcats
SALEM, OR — Adrienne Folsom scored an unassisted goal on her only shot of the game as the University of Puget Sound women’s soccer team beat the Willamette University Bearcats 1-0 in a Northwest Conference match as Sparks Field on Saturday.
UPS remains in second place in the NWC with an 8-1 record (11-1 overall). The Bearcats falls to 7-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the NWC.
Folsom’s goal came in the 26th minute when her shot bounced over Bearcat goalie Kari Woody. UPS’s Tera Anderson was injured with 1:44 to play, causing a stoppage of play while she was transported to the hospital.
UPS out-shot the Bearcats 9-6 for the game. The Loggers had six corners to only two for Willamette. Both goalies — Erin Williams for UPS and Kari Woody for Willamette — had two saves.
The Bearcat's best chances to score came from freshman Rachel Clevenger in the second half. Williams saved the first by tipping it over the end-line for a corner kick. The second came when Clevenger nailed a shot from the top of the box, but right at Williams.
The Bearcats travel to Washington next weekend for matches against league-leading Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman on Sunday. UPS travels to Lewis and Clark this Sunday.
