Four Bearcats Earn Top NWC Honors

SALEM, OR — Cross country runners Danya Rumore and Aaron Hollingshead, volleyball player Kristen Halleck and soccer player Nicole Dahl all earned Northwest Conference Player of the Week honors for their outstanding performances over the weekend.

Hollingshead (pictured left) and Rumore were the top Bearcat runners in the Charles Bowles Invitational held at Bush Park on Saturday as both cross country teams held on to their No. 1 West Region rankings.

Hollingshead, a senior from Portland, notched the second fastest time in Bearcat history (24:24.3) finishing third out of 261 runners in the men’s 8K race. The Bearcat men finished fourth in the team event.

Rumore, (So., Sagle, ID) ran the third fastest time in Bearcat history (17:36.9) while taking third place (out of 271 runners) in the 5K College Division race. The Bearcat women finished fourth in the team event.

Halleck’s 41 kills and 43 digs propelled the Bearcats to a pair of weekend victories. The senior from Salem joined the nation’s 30-kill club against George Fox on Friday night, then showed her versatility with 25 digs in a 3-game sweep of Linfield Saturday. The Bearcat volleyball team is tied with PLU for the top spot in the Northwest Conference with a 5-1 conference record.

Dahl, a senior from West Richland WA, tallied three goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Lewis and Clark, then capped her weekend with a goal in the Bearcat’s 3-0 win over George Fox. Willamette’s women’s soccer team is ranked 6th in the West Region.

Football players Quentin Brock and Allen Coburn received honorable mention honors for their efforts in the Bearcats 21-19 win over previously-unbeaten UPS Saturday night.
