Hindman's Hat Trick Leads Bearcats Over Whitworth 5-1
SPOKANE, WA — Brenna Hindman scored three goals as the Willamette University women’s soccer team (8-5-2 overall, 6-4-1 NWC) defeated Whitworth, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in a Northwest Conference match at Spokane.
The loss by second-place Whitworth deals its NWC title hopes a huge blow. The University of Puget Sound leads the NWC with a 10-1 record going into this weekend’s contests.
Jessica Lammers got the Bearcats on top early when she headed in a free kick by Laura Uhlmansiek in the 9th minute.
After Rachel Leavitt tied the game for Whitworth (10-4-1, 9-2-1 NWC) in the 22nd minute, Hindman scored the first of her hat trick when her shot hit the post past Pirate keeper Jenn Miller.
Uhlmansiek scored just after halftime, connecting on a free kick in the 51st minute for a 3-1 Willamette lead. Hindman’s second goal in the 66th minute was unassisted. Her third goal came off an assist by Naomi Baez in the 78th minute.
Whitworth out-shot the Bearcats 17-11. Willamette had only four shots in the second half and scored on three of them.
