PLU top Willamette 3-1 to snap 17-game losing streak to Bearcats
TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer
team snapped a 17-game losing streak to Willamette University
today, topping the Bearcats 3-1 in a Northwest Conference game on
the PLU Field.
The Lutes recorded their first win over Willamette since Oct. 10,
1992 — a 5-0 PLU victory — to improve to 4-5-2 overall, 4-3-1 in
the conference. The Bearcats are 6-4-2 overall and are also 4-3-1
in conference games.
Jenny Ironside scored the first two goals of her PLU career to lead the Lutes. She scored an unassisted goal at 12:11 of the first half for a 1-0 PLU lead.
Stefka Kling put the Lutes in front 2-0 after receiving a pass from Brita Lider at the 37:48 mark.
Willamette's Susan Butler scored at 42:16 of the opening half to pull the Bearcats to within one.
Ironside clinched the victory at 75:14 with her second goal of
the game.
Kim Bosley had 3 saves in goal for the Lutes. Kari Woody had 3
saves
for Willamette. The Bearcats outshot PLU 11-8, but both teams had

shots on goal.
Willamette is at Linfield on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. conference encounter.
