Rumore, Hollingshead Pace Bearcats at Jim Danner Invitational

TROUTDALE, OR — The Willamette University women’s cross country team had four of the first 11 finishers to finish first in the team event at the Jim Danner Invitational Saturday at Blue Lake Park.

Led by senior Aaron Hollingshead’s 5th place finish, and four runners in the top 15 on the men’s side, the Bearcat men’s cross country team finished second in the team event.

Danya Rumore (pictured left) finished second in the women’s 5K race in a time of 18:08.14. Kari Holbert placed 5th (18:20.78), Molly Phimister was 10th (18:35.38) and Sarah Zerzan placed 11th (18.37.43).

The Bearcat women won the event with 36 points, well ahead of second place finisher, the University of Portland, with 55 points. Pacific Lutheran (122 points), Oregon State University’s “B” team (144) and George Fox University (153) rounded out the top five on the women’s side.

Hollingshead’s time of 20:13.63 was 13 seconds behind the winning effort of Portland’s Brendan Robinson. UP won the men’s title with 29 points. Willamette finished with 45 points.

Other top finishers for the Bearcats included Travis Harris (9th, 20:28.06), Carlos Ruiz (12th, 20:29.48), Ian batch (14th, 20:30.16) and Nick Symonds (18th, 20:37.40).
