Tennessee Team Takes Out Bearcats 2-1
SALEM, OR — Brian Lund scored his first goal of the season, but the Willamette University men’s soccer team fell to Rhodes College 2-1 in a non-conference soccer match Sunday afternoon at Sparks Field.
The Lynx got a pair of second half goals to take a 2-0 lead. Alex Ramirez scored early in the 46th minute on an unassisted goal to put Rhodes up 1-0. At the 60-minute mark, Chase Mathis converted a pass from Nick Frankel as the visitors went up 2-0.
Lund’s goal came in the 74th minute off an assist from Kyle Gouveia. But the Bearcats could not get the tying goal.
Rhodes, from Memphis Tennessee and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, raised its season record to 10-2-1 overall, 5-1-1 in the SCAC. The Bearcats fall to 2-9-2 overall and 2-7 in the Northwest Conference.
Rhodes travels to Linfield to take on the Pioneers on Tuesday. The Bearcats travel to Washington next weekend to face Whitworth and Whitman.
