Bearcats Rally for 57-56 Win Over Claremont
CLAREMONT, CA — The Willamette University men’s basketball team (2-1) rallied from a 10-point half-time deficit as John Olinger’s 17 points led the Bearcats to a 57-56 win over Claremont Mudd Scripps College (1-2) at the David Wells Classic Friday night.
Olinger hit five of nine shots, including four three-pointers, as he led three Bearcats in double figures. CJ Stuvland scored ten points and Harold Sublett Jr. added ten points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Brennan Garrelts chipped in nine points while Todd Lewis grabbed six rebounds.
The Bearcats shot 52% in the second half, including 50% from beyond the arc, while holding CMS to 40% shooting.
Willamette out-rebounded Claremont 34-27, giving Coach Gordie James his 298th career win at Willamette.
Willamette faces Pomona-Pfitzer Saturday night in the second game of the classic before returning home for next week’s John Lewis Classic.
