Halleck and Sammons Earn NWC First Team Honors, Thompson Named Honorable Mention
SALEM, OR — Kristen Halleck and Angie Sammons earned First Team honors, and Lauren Thompson was named Honorable Mention as the 2004 All-Northwest Conference Volleyball team was announced this week.
The Bearcats, led by Coach Tricia Wright, finished the season 19-6 overall, and 13-3 in the NWC. Willamette finished in sole possession of second place behind league champion Pacific Lutheran University. The Bearcats were the only NWC team to beat PLU this season.
All three of the Bearcat honorees finished in the Top Ten in league statistics for hitting percentage as the Bearcats led the NWC in that category at .217.
Halleck, a senior from Salem, OR, averaged 4.18 kills per game
and 4.25 digs, along with 38 service aces. That ranked her No. 3 in
the league in kills, No. 7 in digs and No. 8 in aces. It was the
second straight year Halleck earned All-NWC First Team
The league leader in kills was Sammons, a junior from Eugene, OR., who averaged 4.40 kills per game. Sammons also recorded 57 service aces, good for second place in the conference.
Thompson, a senior from Mapleton, OR, averaged 2.99 kills per game, good for No. 7 in the league in hitting percentage. Thompson also recorded 80 blocks on the season, good for No. 6 in conference.
