Bearcats Fall to Chapman Despite 31 from Wyffels
HAYWARD, CA — Chapman University went on a 9-1 run midway through the second half as they defeated the Willamette University women’s basketball team 71-63 in a non-conference game Saturday night at Hayward.
Vanessa Wyffels scored 31 points on 12 of 15 shooting to lead
the Bearcats. She also had a game-high ten
rebounds as Willamette out-rebounded Chapman 38-30.
Chapman featured a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures led by 13 points from Brenda Gallardo and Kristen Childley. But it was a pair of three-pointers from Melissa Nakamura in the 9-1 run that sealed the deal for Chapman.
Laura Payne added 11 points and four assists for willamette. Julia Short also had four assists to go along with seven points.
The Bearcats fall to 1-5 on the season. Chapman out-shot the Bearcats 48% to 42%.
The Bearcats return home to play Cascade College next Friday.
