Cascade's Second Half Run Beats Bearcats 79-67
SALEM, OR — Down two at halftime, the Cascade College Thunderbirds went on a 12-2 run to open the second half and pulled away to beat the Willamette University men’s basketball team 79-67 in a non-conference game at the Cone Field House Friday night.
Joshua Garrett (24 points, nine rebounds, three assists) and Malik Edwards (22 points, nine rebounds) paced the Thunderbirds as they raised their record to 5-4 overall.
The Bearcats fall to 3-4 overall as they head out Saturday to play Division I Northern Arizona Saturday night.
CJ Stuvland’s ten first half points put the Bearcats on top 41-39 at the break. He led three Bearcats in double figures with 18 points. John Olinger added 14 and Henry Greeley hit for 12.
Guard Harold Sublett Jr. missed his second straight game with a thumb injury suffered in last Friday’s game against Western Baptist College.
But Garret and Edwards combined to score 14 and 11 points respectively in the second half to lead Cascade. Trevor Hutton added 12 points for the Thunderbirds, eight in the first half. Paul Hamilton had 14 points and six rebounds.
For the game, Cascade out-shot the Bearcats 50.8% to 34.8. They out-rebounded the Bearcats 44-35. The Bearcats launched 38 three-point shots, hitting only 13.
