Matlock Named AFCA All-American
SALEM, OR — Senior defensive end Nate Matlock has been named to the American Football Coaches Association 2004 All-American team. The two-time Northwest Conference first team defender also recently played on the US team at the Aztec Bowl in Cancun, Mexico.
In that game, Matlock, the 2003 NWC Defensive Player of the Year, recovered a fumble and nearly returned it for a touchdown, had a pair of tackles and recorded one sack.
Matlock is one of only two NWC players to earn AFCA All-American honors. The other is Linfield quarterback Brett Elliot.
Matlock, a native of Boise, ID, was also named as a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American and the NCAA DIII All-West Region Third team .
