Swim Teams Both Place Fifth at Northwest Invitational

Tacoma, WA- The Willamette University men’s and women’s swim team both finished fifth at the Northwest Invitational this past weekend.

Willamette’s Shannon Gima, Kate Miller, Bridget Sutherland, and Elise Tuttle raced to a first place finish with a time of 4:16.02, in the women’s 400 Yd Medley Relay.

Geoff Kruse pulled in a first place for the Bearcats as he finished with a time of 1:55.25 in the 200 Free.

For the Bearcat women, Sutherland and Tuttle led Willamette, each with second and third place finishes. Sutherland finished second in the 100 Fly (1:03.89) and third in the 200 Fly (2:23.28). Tuttle completed the 200 Free in 2:05.89 and the 100 Free in 58.00, good for second and third.

For the women’s 200 Yd Freestyle Relay, Gima, Thiemens, Tuttle, and Chelsea Hollingsworth, swam for third (1:47.98). Gima also received an individual third place for her 1:04.49 finish in the 100 Back.

For the Bearcat men, Owen Williams brought home third in the 200 Free (1:56.26).

A handful of Bearcat swimmers did not compete at the Northwest Invitational, rather they traveled north to the Husky Invite, both of which took place last weekend. Results on the Husky Invite are still to come.
