Western Baptist Over Willamette
SALEM, OR — Eric Fiegi scored 33 points as Western Baptist College raised its season record to 9-0 with an 89-78 win over the Willamette University men’s basketball team Friday night in the John Lewis Classic at the Cone Field House.
Fiegi hit 15 of 25 shots to lead four Warriors in double figures. Matt Larson had 11 points and five assists, including two key driving lay-ups in the second half. Jeff Dunn had 15 points and a team-high six rebounds and Joel Worchester had ten points.
After Western took a 12-point halftime lead, the Warriors quickly jumped ahead by 20 in the second half. CJ Stuvland (23 points), and Harold Sublett Jr. (15 points, five rebounds, five assists) led a Bearcat comeback that cut the lead to less than ten points on several occasions.
But Fiegi, Larson and 16 of 21 free throw shooting, denied the Bearcats’ comeback.
Brennan Garrelts added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds for Willamette. Henry Greeley scored a career-high 13 points while John Olinger led the Bearcats with eight assists, despite going only 2 of 12 from the field.
The Bearcats out-rebounded Western 38-34, but Western shot 51% from the field to 44% for Willamette.
The John Lewis Classic concludes Saturday night. The Bearcats face Southern Oregon University in the 8 p,m, match-up, immediately following the game between WBC and Linfield College.
