Bruins Beat Bearcats, 69-36
SALEM, OR — Robin Taylor scored 19 points and George Fox University went on a 19-3 run to end the first half as the Bruins defeated the Willamette University women’s basketball team 69-36 in a Northwest Conference game Tuesday night.
The Bearcats are now 5-9 on the season, 2-3 in the NWC. The Bruins are 9-4 overall, 3-1 NWC.
With her team down 17-14 midway through the first half, Taylor tied the game with a 3-pointer, then put the Bruins ahead to stay with a steal and lay-up. The turnover was one of 30 committed by the Bearcats in the game.
Taylor continued her torrid shooting in the second half as she hit 7-9 shots, including 4-5 from three-point distance. Liz Clark led the Bruins with ten rebounds as the Bruins opened the second half with a 20-3 run.
For the Bearcats, Julia Short led the team with eight points and six rebounds. Roni Schneider scored five points, all in the first half,
The Bearcats shot a woeful 26% from the floor for the game while the Bruins connected on 40% of their shots. Willamette won the rebounding battle, 46-38.
The Bearcats return to action Wednesday night, traveling to Pacific University to make up the game cancelled by the ice storm last Saturday.
