Men's Basketball Falls To Linfield 77-63
McMinnville, Or - Linfield’s Sam Kreiger scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the second half to help the Linfield Wildcats defeat the Willamette Bearcats 77-63.
The Wildcats are 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the Northwest Conference, while the Bearcats fall to 5-8 and 2-2 in the NWC.
The Bearcats started from behind, after Linfield scored the first 10 points. Grad student Todd Lewis ended the streak with a lay-up at 16:10 for the Bearcats. Willamette trailed 17-4, finding the basket once in their first eight attempts.
Willamette gained composure as Henry Greeley took the Bearcats on a 15-4 run with consecutive three-point baskets. Lewis added a three-pointer with 6:08 left in the half for the first Bearcat lead, 27-26. Shortly after, jumpers by Kreiger and Blake Shelton along with a three-pointer from Jon Hildebrandt, gave the Wildcats back the lead, 35-29.
Linfield led 37-32 at the break behind a dozen points by Hildebrandt, who knocked down five of his first six shots. Lewis led the Bearcats with 10 points in the half.
Shelton helped the Wildcats open the second half with a 10-point lead, sinking a three-pointer. Later, Jeremy Goodman sank another three to help increase the gap.
The Bearcats were able to close within eight points with 6:32 to go on Greeley’s three-pointer.
Willamette travels to Pacific University Saturday night for an 8:00pm game.
