Swim Teams Fall to PLU
TACOMA, WA — Despite a pair of victories from Becca Fischer, the Willamette University women’s swim team lost a close dual meet to Pacific Lutheran University when the Lutes won the final relay event of the day. The Bearcat women lost 107-97 in the Northwest Conference meet.
The Bearcat men also lost to PLU 123-62. Geoff Kruse picked up the men’s only first place finish in the meet, capturing the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:51.88.
For the women, Fischer won the 200 breaststroke (2:32.58) and the 200 IM (2:16.34). Other Bearcat women placing first included Brittany Thiemens (50 free, 26.40), Bridget Sutherland (200 fly, 2:20.61) and Shannon Gima (200 Back, 2:22.36).
The Lutes held a one point lead going into the final relay, but were able to capture the first and third places to secure the victory.
On the men’s side, Kruse also finished second in the 500 free (5:23.70). Avery Robinson had three second place finishes in individual events.
