Bearcat Upset Blown By Power Outage; Completion of Game Scheduled for Feb. 22
TACOMA, WA — A blown transformer may have cost the Willamette University women’s basketball team an upset over the Northwest Conference’s second place team, Pacific Lutheran University.
With 4:32 left in the second half and Willamette leading 47-42, the power went out in Olson Auditorium. The cause was a blown transformer on the lower part of campus.
After an approximate 30 minute delay, the game officials and coaches agreed to postpone the remainder of the game to Feb. 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
The men’s game was also cancelled and will be played on Feb. 22. If the women's game has a bearing on the Northwest Conference championship, the game will be resumed where it left off and completed. If the outcome does not have a bearing on the championship, the game will be cancelled.
The men's game will be played no matter what on Feb. 22. If the women's game is played, the men's game will start approximately 30 minutes after the women's game. If the women's game is not resumed, the men's game will start at 7 p.m.
