Bearcats Beat Northwest Christian for First Win of Season
SALEM, OR — Laura Milne, Brittany Dearing and Brittney Tachara combined on a four-hit shutout as the Willamette University softball team won its first game of the season, defeating Northwest Christian College 3-0 in a Capitol Cup softball game at Willamette Field Saturday afternoon.
Milne (pictured left), picked up the win with 3 2/3 inning of two-hit ball. Dearing pitched 3 1/3 innings, also allowing two hits. Tachara picked up the save with a scoreless seventh inning.
Willamette (1-3) scored twice in the second inning when Molly Barnes singled, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Amanda Lindquist knocked in Barnes with a bunt single. The Bearcats added another run in the second inning when Tara Jackson scored with the RBI going to Marianne Ward.
Cari Schruth singled in a run in the seventh inning, one of her three hits in the game.
Megan McLearn picked up the loss for NCC, allowing three runs in seven innings and striking out four. She also had two hits in the game.
