Bearcats Knock Out Boxers
SALEM, OR — In his final home contest, senior John Olinger scored 24 points to lead Willamette over Pacific 91-56 in Northwest Conference action. The Bearcats continued their blistering shooting, with Olinger nailing five consecutive three point field goals in the second half. The Bearcats finished at 66% from the floor for the contest.
Following a pre-game ceremony honoring the team’s five seniors, the Bearcats jumped out to an early double digit first half lead. Ian Mansfield paced the Bearcats in the first half with eleven points. Each Bearcat senior scored in the game, led by Olinger, Brennan Garrelts (12), Jason Luchterhand (8), Drew Miller (6) and Jacob Baran (2). Pacific edged back into the contest in the closing minutes of the first half, narrowing the lead to 38-31.
Olinger and Miller scored the first 23 Bearcat points in the closing frame, leading Willamette to 70% second half shooting and a forty point lead.
With the win, the Bearcats (15-6, 11-2) retain second place in the competitive Northwest Conference playoff race. The Boxers fall to 8-14, 2-11 in Northwest Conference play. Willamette will travel to McMinnville on Saturday to battle conference rival Linfield.
