Four Bearcats Score in Double Figures to Lead Bearcats to 74-65 Win Over Whitman
WALLA WALLA, WA — Four Bearcats scored in double figures as the Willamette University men’s basketball team defeated Whitman, 74-65, in a Northwest Conference game Friday night in Walla Walla.
Todd Lewis’ 19 points paced the Bearcats (11-13 overall, 8-7 NWC). John Olinger scored 16 points, dished off a game-high ten assists and grabbed six rebounds in another excellent all-around effort. CJ Stuvland added 14 points and seven rebounds and Ian Mansfield scored 12.
The Bearcats shot 44% from the floor in the first half, grabbing a 37-25 lead. Whitman mounted a number of charges in the second half. Kyle Born converted two free throws with 13:33 remaining, closing the gap to 47-41.
But the Bearcats answered with another scoring burst, taking a 60-43 lead on a Todd Lewis jumper with 9:40 left to play. Willamette coasted from there to the win.
The Bearcats finish their season tonight on the road at Whitworth.
