Swim Team Finishes Fourth And Fifth At NWC Championships
SPOKANE, WA — The Willamette University women’s swim team finished fourth in the Northwest Conference championships, which concluded Sunday at Whitworth College. The men’s team finished fifth overall.
On the women’s side, the University of Puget Sound won the championship, followed by Whitworth and Whitman. Whitworth won the men’s competition, followed by Linfield, UPS, PLU and the Bearcats.
In Sunday’s competition, Elise Tuttle, Becca Fischer and Kei Otawa all finished fourth in their respective events for the top Bearcat performances of the day.
Tuttle finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 55.80. Fischer (2:29.95) finished fourth in the 200-breast stroke, followed by Bearcat Kate Miller, who finished fifth in a time of 2:37.42.
For the women, Bridget Sutherland finished ninth in the 200 butterfly (2:21.51) and Shannon Gima finished eighth on the 200 backstroke (2:15.18).
On the men’s side, Otawa captured fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.70. Avery Robinson finished fifth in the 200 Fly (2:07.16) and Geoff Kruse finished eighth in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:10.70. Greg Henselman finished tenth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 21:04.70.
Both the men and women teams finished third in the final relay of the day, the 800 freestyle.
