Bearcat Softball Shutdown Lewis & Clark
PORTLAND, OR — Kim Boscacci scored twice and Lindsey Braun had a pair of RBI as the Willamette University softball team scored four times in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 win over Lewis & Clark in game 2 of a doubleheader win in Portland Saturday afternoon.
Boscacci was 2-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Braun was 1-3 with a pair of RBI. Cari Schruth, the Bearcats’ leadoff hitter had four stolen bases in the game. She was 1-3 with one run scored. Liz Gilgan was also 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Brittney Tachara pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts. Brittany Dearing picked up the save.
In the opener, the Bearcats scored three times in the top of the sixth to erase a 2-1 Pioneer lead. Schruth and Braun each had an RBI. Molly Barnes was 2-3 with a run scored. The Bearcats managed only four hits off Janet Freerks and Roxy Rittmaster, but three of the four runs scored off Freerks were unearned.
Dearing got the win with three innings of one-hit relief. Gilgan started and pitched the first two innings. Laura Milne pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball.
For the season, the Bearcats are now 3-2 overall, 2-0 NWC. The Pioneers fall to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the NWC.
The two teams face off again Sunday, this time at Willamette Field. The games begin at noon.
