Bearcats Dominate NWC Five Way Meet
MCMINNVILLE, OR — Nate Matlock won three throwing events and the Willamette University women’s track team won 11 of 18 events, as both the Bearcat men and women teams won the Northwest Conference Five-Way Meet at Linfield College Saturday afternoon.
The women — with a dominating performance in track events — finished with 219 points to outdistance Linfield (139) and George Fox (96).
On the men’s side, Willamette’s 257 points easily won the event over Linfield (194) and George Fox (76). Pacific and Lewis and Clark also competed in the meet.
Individual winners for the Bearcats women included: Mariah Hanson, 200 meter dash (26:46); Alicia Andrews, 400 meter dash (1:00.31); Stephanie Vandehey, 800 meters (2:22.76); Carly Killam, 1500 meter (4:49.6); Sarah Zerzan , 5000 meters, (19:04.69), Nicole Lucas, 100 meter hurdles (15.71); Shannon McGrane, 400 meter hurdles (1:04.66); Ashley Sherratt, 3000 meter steeplechase (12:17.83); Christina Arquette, pole vault (3.04 M) and Danielle Page, triple jump, (11.12 M).
On the men’s side, Matlock put up wins in the shot put (14.96 M), the discus (46.03 M) and the hammer (54.20M). Other men’s winners included: Everett Thomas, 400 meters (51.22); Scott Overby, 1500 meters (4:04.37); Brednan Brown, 5000 meters (15:42.36); Tyler May, 110 hurdles (14:68); Travis Harris, 3000m steeplechase (9:42.42); Zach Larsen, high jump (2:01m); and KC Gillespie, long jump (6.58M).
Willamette hosts the Charles Bowles Spring Break Classic next Saturday at McCulloch Stadium.
