Softball Sweeps Lewis & Clark In Four Game Series
SALEM, OR- Freshman Marianne Ward, hit 4-5 in the double header against Lewis & Clark Sunday, helping Willamette to a 4-0 Northwest Conference record.
The Bearcats swept the Pios in the weekend’s four game series after 5-1 and 10-1 victories, raising Willamette’s record 5-2 overall and 4-0 NWC. Lewis & Clark dropped to 0-6 overall, 0-4 NWC.
Ward, second baseman from Sierra Madre, CA, hit 2-3 in the first game with 1RBI, and continued to be strong throughout the second, hitting 2-2, with a double, 2 runs, 3 putouts, and 4 assists.
In the first game with the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, designated hitter Amanda Lindquist laid down a sacrifice bunt to score the winning run. Junior Kim Boscacci, later smacked a double, to bring in two more runs, putting the Bearcats up by four.
Boscacci hit 2-3 for the game, connecting for one double, and a triple. First baseman Lindsey Braun had a double.
Freshman Brittney Tachara, picked up her second win, allowing only 2 hits of 30 batters faced, striking out seven.
For the second game, the Bearcats jumped out early in the first, with a 3-0 lead.
The momentum carried throughout the game, as Willamette piled on three more runs in the third, ending the game in five innings with a score of 10-1.
The Bearcats out hit the Pios 8-4, giving pitcher Laura Milne her second win, while pitcher Brittany Dearing picked up her second save.
For the Bearcats, Boscacci hit again 2-3, with 1 RBI, 1 run. Third baseman, Molly Barnes hit 1-3, with 2 runs, and 1 RBI.
For Lewis & Clark, first baseman Tiffany Henning, went 2-2. Right fielder Emily Strawn hit 1-1, with 1 run.
The Bearcats are on the road next weekend, March 12 & 13, playing Pacific and George Fox University.
