Softball Takes Two From Puget Sound

TACOMA, WA- The Willamette softball team took two in a double header against the University of Puget Sound Friday afternoon, 7-6 and 1-0.

The Bearcats improved to an overall record of 11-5 and a Northwest Conference record of 9-1. The Loggers dropped to 11-8 and 5-5.

Willamette entered today’s double-header tied atop the NWC standings with Linfield College.

In the first game Loggers used a five run bottom of the fourth to take control of the game at 6-2. The Bearcats rallied back in the top of the fifth with three runs, adding two more in the seventh, for a come-from-behind win.

For Willamette Kim Boscacci went 1-2, one RBI, one sac, and one run. Catcher Cari Schruth scored three runs, recorded a stolen base, and drew two of the Bearcats’ six walks.

Maren Buck, shortstop for the Loggers, went 3-4 with a double, triple, and two RBI. Second baseman Lindsay Fujita hit 1-3 and had a one run effort.

Junior Brittany Dearing picked up her third win for the Bearcats.
In the nightcap Willamette jumped out early, scoring the game’s only run in the first, with a sacrifice hit by Molly Barnes.
Freshman pitcher Brittney Tachara picked up the win for the Bearcats, holding the Loggers to only five hits. Puget Sound’s Adrianee Herlache allowed only four hits for the game.
First baseman Lindsey Braun hit 2-3 for Willamette. Freshman Marianne Ward went 1-3 with a double.
The Bearcats face rival Pacific Lutheran Saturday afternoon with a double- header starting at noon.
