Wyffels And Olinger Named To All-Conference Teams; Wyffels Leads Nation in Field Goal Percentage
SALEM, OR- Willamette basketball players Vanessa Wyffels and John Olinger were named to the 2004-2005 All-Northwest Conference Basketball Teams. CJ Stuvland earned Honorable Mention.
Wyffels a junior post from Portland, OR, was named to the First Team All-NWC. Wyffels led the nation in field goal percentage (.742), averaging 19.1 p/g with a total of 458 points for the season.
Only two other players in the nation — the leaders in field goal percentage for men in Division II and Division III shot better than 70% on the season. Next closest to Wyffels in field goal percentage for women in DIII was Kanalyn Dehn of Ripon College, shooting 65.4%
Wyffels was No. 3 in the conference in rebounding, grabbing a
total of 232
rebounds and averaging 9.7 r/g.
Olinger, a junior wing from Salem, OR, was named to the Second Team All-NWC. He averaged 14.8 p/g, totaling in 369 points for the Bearcats. With 104 assists for the season, Olinger was No. 2 for the conference.
Olinger was named the NWC Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 14, when he averaged 25 points per game in the Bearcats’ three victories that week.
Stuvland, a sophomore guard from Portland, OR, received
Honorable Mention for his season play. Stuvland sank a total of 363
points, averaged 14.5 p/g, shooting .541 from the field (5th in the
NWC),and .465 from the
three (3rd in the NWC).
