Crew Rows To Second Place Finish at Redwoods Regatta
Eureka, CA — The Willamette University crew team finished second in both the men’s and women’s divisions — led by a first place win by the Women’s Novice 8 team — at the 22nd Annual Blue Heron Redwoods Sprints Regatta at Humboldt Bay in Eureka Saturday.
Overall, the Bearcats finished second to host Humboldt State. Humboldt recorded 60 points, the Bearcats were second with 45 and Santa Clara was third with 23 points. In the men’s division, Humboldt edged the Bearcats 37-31. On the women’s side, it was Humboldt capturing 23 points to 14 for the Bearcats.
The Women’s Novice 8 team recorded the Bearcats sole win, completing the course in a time of 8:27.62 to edge out Humboldt by eight seconds. Willamette’s Women’s 4 team finished second, just four seconds behind Humboldt State. Willamette’s Second Varsity 8 also finished second in its race, as did the Women’s Novice 4 team took second in its race, falling to Santa Clara by six seconds
On the men’s side, the Bearcat Varsity 8 took second place, while the men’s 4 finished third, just a second behind Seattle Pacific.
Willamette hosts its annual Governor’s Cup Regatta next Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at Riverfront Park.
