Linfield Takes Pair From Bearcats
SALEM, OR — John Dailey homered twice and drove in five runs as the Linfield Wildcats beat Willamette University 13-1, part of a doubleheader sweep against the Willamette University baseball team Saturday afternoon at John Lewis field.
In the first game, Linfield’s David Moore went 4-5 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Wildcats won 9-3.
With the wins, Linfield is now 19-5 overall and 9-2 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats slip to 10-13 overall, 6-8 NWC.
In game two, Dailey went 3-6 with 5RBI and two runs scored, helping pitcher Alex Justus win his seventh straight decision. Linfield scored three times in each of the first two innings and held a 7-0 lead before the Bearcats scored once in the third when Sean Anderson scored on Matt Johnson’s grounder.
Anderson was 4-5 in the game. Steve Johnson added a pair of hits as the Bearcats managed seven hits in the game.
Linfield knocked out 18 hits in the game. Tommy Paterson was 3-5 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Josh Armstrong, Brice Ott, David Moore and Brian Baker each had two hits in the game.
Justus went seven innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out six.
In the first game, Linfield scored four runs in the second inning. Justus doubled home Dailey and Moore for the first two runs.
Willamette came back with three in the bottom of the third when Kelly Gilmore homered over the right field fence and driving in Matt Rasmussen and Anderson.
But the wildcats came back with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, then added two more insurance runs in the ninth. Jordon Rasmussen settled down after Gilmore’s home-run as he went seven inning, gave up three earned runs and struck out 10. Joe Paterson pitched two scoreless innings.
Zach VandeGriend took the loss for Willamette, dropping his record to 3-4.
For the game, Gilmore was 2-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored.
The teams meet again Sunday in a single game beginning at noon.
