Top of the Order Lifts Bearcats Past Bruins for Season Sweep

BEAVERTON, OR- With wins in the first four singles and first two doubles positions, it was the top of the order that lifted the Willamette women’s tennis team to a 6-3 victory over George Fox University Thursday afternoon at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

The Bearcats raised their overall record to 8-4 and 5-4 in the Northwest Conference. The Bruins fell to 4-8 overall and 4-7 conference record.

Willamette’s Ashley Layton and Alaine Anderson opened doubles at No. 1 with a win over Kelsie Dalke and Lindsay Hagler 8-1. Melody Kerber and Alison Nunamaker defeated George Fox’s No. 2, Courtney Ngai and Laura Rogers 8-3.

The Bruins took the No. 3 doubles as Valerie Ring and Alayna Shaw edged Sarah Potts and Tammy Mlady 9-8 (10-8).

The Bearcats dominated the singles with wins from Nunamaker over Ngai
6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Layton over Ring 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, Kerber over Dalke 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and Anderson over Hagler 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.

George Fox took the remaining two singles matches, Rogers over Potts 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Rebecca Crinnion over Mlady 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.

Willamette hosts Pacific University this Friday, April 8th. The match is tentatively scheduled for a 1pm start.
