Bearcats Move To Finals at NCAA Championships

WAVERLY, IA — Shannon McGrane, Jordyn Smith, Nick Symmonds and the women’s 4 x 400 relay team all qualified for the finals Sunday in the NCCA Division III Track and Field Championships which began Thursday at Wartburg College.

McGrane and Smith qualified for the finals in two events; the 400 meter hurdles and the 4 x 400 relays. They were joined in the relay by Andrea May and Alicia Andrews as the Bearcat women posted a time of 3:51.89, their fastest of the season. The finals will be run Sunday at 11:10 am PT.

McGane and Smith will run side by side in the 400 hurdles final on Sunday at 1:25 p.m. McGrane will run in lane 6 after running a 62.17, the fourth fastest qualifying time of the day. Smith ran a 62.82 and will start in lane 7.

Symmonds, looking to duplicate his 2003 double national championship in the 1500 and the 800, qualified for the finals in the 1500 Thursday, posting a 3:58.24. Symmonds will run the 800 trials on Saturday where is the two-time defending champ. Sunday’s 1500 final will begin at 11:20 am PT. The 800 goes off at 12:50 pm.

Tyler May is 12th after the first day of the decathlon. The final five events begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
