Tyler May Leads NCAA Division III In The Decathlon
SALEM, OR- After two sun drenched days at Bowles Track in Bush Park, senior Tyler May is currently the NCAA Division III points leader in the decathlon. May (Florence, OR) scored 7,107 points, improving on his personal best by 480 points, which was earned in his third place finish at the 2004 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
May’s performance gives him the ninth best decathlon mark in NCAA Division III history, joining school record holder Jimmy Watts, who is No.2 All-Time with a score of 7,384.
Joining May in the Willamette Decathlon was sophomore Mark Rice (Lewiston, ID), who placed fourth in the Northwest Conference decathlon this season. Rice added 363 points to his personal best giving him a score of 5,672.
For this weekend’s events, the Bearcats will be competing at the University of Oregon in the Oregon Twilight as well as the University of Washington for the Ken Shannon Invitational.
