Symmonds, Andrews and McGrane Named to ESPN District 8 Academic All-American Teams

SALEM, OR — Nick Symmonds, Alicia Andrews and Shannon McGrane have all been named to the ESPN District 8 CoSida Academic All-American teams in track and field/cross country.

Symmonds, fresh off his national championships in the 800 and 1500 at the NCAA Division III Track and Field championships last weekend, carries a 3.42 gpa in chemistry. The junior from Boise, ID has won the 800 three straight times and recaptured the 1500 title he won as a freshman in 2003.

Symmonds was also recently named the 2005 National Male Athlete of the Year in track, following former teammate Jake Stout, who won the honor in 2004. Symmonds has the sixth fastest time ever in the 800 in DIII and is a three-time member of the USTCA all-academic team.

McGrane, who finished second in the 400 hurdles at the championships, was recently named as the West Region Female Athlete of the Year. The senior from Colville, WA won the Northwest Conference 400 hurdles, 100 hurdles, 4 x 400 relay and finished fourth in the heptathlon. She carries a 3.81 gpa in chemistry and is a four-time member of the USTCA all-academic team.

Andrews, a senior from Clarkson, WA, holds a 3.88 gpa in economics. She finished second in the 800 at the NCAA championships and teamed with McGrane, Jordyn Smith and Andrea May to finish 8th in the 4 x 400 relays. She is a nine-time NWC champion in the 800, the 4 x 400 and the 400. Her second place finish in the 400 was her third straight season earning All-American honors in that event. She is also a four-time member of the USTCA all-academic team.

All three are now eligible for the ESPN Academic All-American national team which will be announced in approximately two weeks.
